A week ago in the conference room at the Nottingham Contemporary, I took part in a fantastic resource for illustrators, the second ever zero2illo LIVE event, organised by Jon Woodward and Lea Woodward. After the event kicked off with a really engaging and interesting keynote by world renowned fashion illustrator Jacqueline Bissett, I took to the floor to share my experience of creating a business plan, led by business strategist Lea who talked us through how to set about making this essential (but often overlooked) tool. I’m sure this was as useful for all the attendees as it was for me, as lots of people commented afterwards that it had fired them up to do the same.

Insightful and inspiring contributions on adding income streams, successful marketing, online portfolio presentation, and the increasing use of animated illustration came from Gemma Robinson, Alex Mathers, Ross Macrae, Victoria Pearce illustration agent, Amy Taylor accountant, and designer Claire Cheung.

I met so many people throughout the day who had such passion for illustration, some having been in the business over 20 years and some just starting out, it was a completely inspiring day!
