To accompany his Radio 4 series “The New Elizabethans”, which marked the present Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, presenter and journalist James Naughtie produced a book for which I was asked to create portraits of all 60 profiled public figures.
In the end the book was published with no illustrations, but here are the portraits I created using dip-pen and indian ink.
David Attenborough, Anita Roddick, Tony Hancock, Elizabeth David (it was decided we should show the cover of her ground breaking cookery book) and Jayaben Desai, who campaigned for workers rights.
