MEET THE ARTIST

After gaining my BA (Hons) Degree in Illustration from the University of Kingston in 1999 and enjoying a 20 year career creating images for well known authors and their books, I found immense satisfaction in picking up my brushes again and rediscovering my love for paint.

My painting journey has proven to be a deeply healing experience as I started let go with my materials and to revel in tactile textures, carefree mark making and, most recently, incorporating luxurious touches of gold.

Continuous experimentation in the studio results in an ever-present sense of discovery and excitement in the finished work, for both me and the viewer.

Quite apart from the sheer satisfaction of applying paint, exploring the way that certain colour combinations and uninhibited brushstrokes make me feel – uplifting my mood and giving me a sense of pure freedom – chasing that experience of joyful exuberance is the entire reason my work comes into existence.

Abstract landscapes which take shape organically for my own self expression often resonate deeply with the experiences of others and speak directly to an emotional place within the viewer, which, I’ve often been told, connects to a part of their own innermost self and is a very powerful feeling.

Most days you’ll find me in my garden studio (nicknamed “the shed”!) at the home I share with my 15 year old son and our sausage dog Jarvis on the outskirts of the quiet rural town of Newark on Trent in Nottinghamshire.

Studio visits are welcome by appointment!
